Santo Domingo – The United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah F. Campos, met with the president of the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD), Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, with the main objective of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, money laundering and transnational organized crime.
During the meeting, both parties agreed on the importance of intensifying joint actions and strengthening existing collaboration mechanisms to combat criminal networks operating regionally and internationally. The meeting marked the first official encounter between the U.S. diplomat and the head of the DNCD.
In that context, the role of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. State Department was highlighted, whose support has been key in joint operations, training programs and strengthening of specialized units of the DNCD.
These actions have contributed to improving the operational and institutional capabilities of the Dominican anti-drug agency, as well as optimizing the exchange of intelligence and best practices in interdiction, with significant results in seizures and prosecution of drug trafficking.
Ambassador Campos was accompanied by Rebecca Márquez, INL’s director in the country, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to continue supporting Dominican efforts to promote regional security and stability.
